Need another reason to make Kakaako your new home? We’ll give you three: 1938 Indochine, Qing Mu and Bluetree Cafe will be joining Kakaako’s flourishing culinary scene in Spring 2018. The three new restaurants will open at The Collection — a development of contemporary residences in the heart of Kakaako– and are being developed Kevin Aoki, CEO of the Aoki Group the visionary behind Doraku and the original Blue Tree Cafe on Kapiolani Boulevard.
If this sounds like your cup of tea, just wait…there’s more. Aoki describes each of the restaurant concepts as follows:
The first restaurant, 1938 Indochine, will feature the flavors of Southeast Asia. The menu will delight the palate with tastes of Vietnamese, Thai and Indonesian cuisine. The restaurant will explore the flavors, ingredients, and cooking techniques of the region.
Co-located with 1938 Indochine will be Qing Mu. The quick-service restaurant will offer menu items prepared to the exacting standards of a traditional Chinese noodle shop. All entrees will be made using organic ingredients and hormone-free meats. For more information, go to www.qingmunoodle.com.
1938 Indochine and Qing Mu will be located at the corner of Ala Moana Boulevard and Keawe Street.
The third restaurant is the Bluetree Cafe, a restaurant that meets the needs of the health-conscious consumer. The Café offers unique items that are good to eat or drink and good for your health. Bluetree Café will be located along Keawe Street and is the second Café location in Honolulu. More information can be found at www.bluetreejuice.com.
From shops to restaurants to entertainment, each new addition to Kakaako brings new life into the neighborhood and makes the area an even more desirable place to live. The Collection is located across the street from SALT where you can find other popular eateries like Arvo, Lanikai Juice, and Highway Inn. We can’t wait to see what will pop up next!
It’s no secret that food trends come and go, from cupcakes to cronuts and beyond people love trying the latest and greatest treats. Acai has been one of those amazing treats that has gone from trend to a local staple here in the islands. That delicious Brazilian berry often mixed with fruits, granola, and honey keeps people coming back bowl after bowl. Nalu, in Kailua, is by far one of my favorite places for Acai but unfortunately for my self, being a towny, it’s so far. So you can imagine my delight when I heard that Nalu is not just moving to town, but coming into my neighborhood of Kakaako.
Nalu offers more than just Acai bowls, with salads, sandwiches, and smoothies also on the menu. The common theme is super healthy and amazingly delicious food that will keep you coming back for more.

The four friends that started Nalu all hail from Brazil and wanted to show the locals of Hawaii how Acai is served in their home country. Speaking to Chris, one of the owners of Nalu she says, “We import our Acai from Brazil. It’s organic, pure, and considered grade-A. We mix our Acai with Guarana Berry Syrup, also imported from Brazil, and bananas, making it the authentic Brazilian recipe. If you ever go to Brazil it will taste just like ours! Here in Hawaii people make Acai bowls differently, they add a lot of frozen mixed berries, apple juice or soymilk, therefore the Acai content is relatively small. In our blend there’s a very large amount of Acai, you can see on the deep dark purple color (which is the real Acai color), so it’s very healthy and loaded with antioxidant!”

The four entrepreneur owners love the thought of being in Kakaako. Close to their favorite super spots and in the heart of such an amazing community. Try Nalu next time you’re in the Ward Village area. It’s inside South Shore Market, underneath TJ Maxx. Take a look at their awesome menu here!
Congratulations are in order for The Howard Hughes Corporation, whose Ward Village development was recently named the best-planned community in the nation by Architectural Digest.
The Ward Village master-planned community was recognized for its forward-thinking architecture, use of local materials — with a nod to Hawaiian culture — and seemingly endless amenities all within walking distance from its towers.
When it comes to master-planned communities, The Howard Hughes Corporation is as seasoned as they come. The corporation has overseen the development or expansion of some of the country’s most sought-after communities since the 1950’s including Summerlin, Nevada, The Woodlands, Texas and Columbia, Maryland. With so much experience planning and building master-planned communities, can you imagine what they could do with 60 acres of oceanfront property in the heart of urban Honolulu?
The answer? Six residential towers including Waiea (completed, for sale), Anaha (under construction, for sale), Ae’o (under construction, for sale), Gateway Towers (for sale), Ke Kilohana (under construction) and A’ali’i (sales to launch soon). With these towers already announced and more in the works, Ward Village is positioned to become a true live-work-play destination with something for everyone.
If you’re interested in learning more about Ward Village and finding out which condominium would be right for you, please leave your contact information below and someone from our team will reach out to you as soon as possible.

Kakaako’s thriving culinary scene just got a whole lot tastier with the opening of Moku Kitchen at SALT at Our Kakaako. Developed by the same team that created the popular Monkeypod Kitchen hotspots in Ko Olina and Wailea, Moku Kitchen fuses Hawaii’s rich farming and ranching heritage with Honolulu’s urban lifestyle.
Named after the Hawaiian word for island, “Moku” promises an authentic taste of Hawaii and sources ingredients from local farmers as far as upcountry and all the way down to the ocean shores. Sure to become a Kakaako staple, the restaurant features a keawe wood burning pizza oven, an expo rotisserie roaster, a variety of sustainable wines and 36 craft beers on tap. Fun fact: it’s also home to one of the first keg wine systems in the state of Hawaii!
One glance at the menu and you’ll be hard pressed to find something you don’t want to try. My personal favorites are the waipoli farm mixed greens, the szechuan stir-fry green beans with mac nuts, the bulgogi tacos, and the hamakua wild mushroom pizza. For dessert, the banana cream pie will be the perfect ending to memorable meal.
Moku Kitchen is open daily 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and happy hour is served daily from 3 to 5:30 p.m. For more information and to view the full menu, visit www.mokukitchen.com.
Ferrari, Maserati, Bentley, and Lamborghini are just some of the luxury car brands that you’ll find at the new Velocity Honolulu showroom in Kakaako. If you’ve driven down Kapiolani blvd. or Ward ave. lately you’ve surely seen the beautiful glass facade with the latest exotic super cars, all sitting below one of Kakaako’s hottest luxury condominiums, Symphony Honolulu.

Park Lane is probably the most unique project in the Kakaako/Ala Moana neighborhood. Instead of building vertically like every other project in the area, the height restrictions presented an interesting obstacle for the developers and designers. What we have today is a “High-rise turned on it’s side” built across seven acres of prime Honolulu real estate where every unit is in touch with the landscape and beauty of Hawaii.
Built adjacent to Ala Moana Center the project is foot steps away from world-class shopping. On the front side of the property you will look out over Ala Moana Beach Park, which spans over 100 acres and some of Oahu’s best surf spots.
The Sky Residences feature both Makai (ocean) and Mauka (mountain) views and feel more like single-family homes than they do a condominium. The Sky Residences offer a chef’s kitchen and lounge with plenty of natural light. The “U-shaped” design surrounds the oversized, covered lanai, featuring a built-in Wolf grill perfect for family gatherings.
Did I mention the amenities at Park Lane are out of this world? Beyond the usual pool, spa, and fitness studios that come with every other project, Park Lane offers guest suites, grocery delivery, wine storage, valet, concierge, and residence care for those that live overseas most of the year.
Everything you need in life can be found at Park Lane. Please contact me if you are interested in pricing, floor plans, or general information. Thank you, Holden@Kakaako.com.
A couple of weeks ago The Collection Honolulu and Waiea in Ward Village welcomed it’s first residents into it’s building. The Collection Honolulu located within “Our Kakaako” on the Ewa side of Kakaako, started sales over two years ago selling it’s tower out shortly after the start of sales. To date only The Townhouses are available.
Waiea, Howard Hughes’ first residential tower in Ward Village, welcomes the first residents to the masterplanned neighborhood. The building is roughly 90% sold with various units in the building still available. Waiea will set a new standard of luxury in Kakaako previously held by Hokua at 1288 Ala Moana blvd. Anaha located cookie corner to Waiea is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2017.
The Collection Honolulu will bring life to “Our Kakaako” and the businesses within SALT, located across the street from the new tower, will surely benefit. The Collection get it’s name from the various styles of living that it offers. You have the main tower where a majority of the units and residents reside. There are 14 Townhouses that bring a new type of urban living to the neighborhood with entrances right at street level and then there are low-rise loft studios that don’t have access to all of the amenities of the tower, but share a smaller amenity package.
Slowly but surely Kakaako is shaping into the neighborhood we will all come to love. If you’re interested in learning more about how you can call Kakaako home, please feel free to reach out to me directly at Holden@Kakaako.com. Thank you!
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I thought there was no better time to express my gratitude for all of your support this year. Earlier this month, I was awarded two awards at the Ward Village Broker Awards Gala including Top Agent by Number of Homes Sold in Ward Village in 2016 and Top Producing Agent by Revenue in Ke Kilohana in 2016. It was such a surprise to receive these awards, I didn’t even have a speech prepared. Life is full of surprises, but one thing is for sure: this wouldn’t be possible without you and for that I want to say thank you.
Years ago, I decided to focus my efforts on helping my clients buy and sell homes in Kakaako because I was passionate about the revitalization of the area. The new condominiums and live-work-play lifestyle that they offer continue to inspire me and I know that this is just the tip of the iceberg. It seems like every day I’m checking out a new restaurant, boutique or event in the area and I believe that this neighborhood is exactly what Hawaii needs.
Whether I’m working with first-time homebuyers, families or those looking to call Hawaii home for the first time, my clients are the reason I’m motivated to work hard each and every day and I can’t say thank you enough.
Symphony Honolulu is Kakaako’s newest residential tower. Oliver McMillan, the project developer, did an amazing job with the finishes in the units and the amenity deck is truly a work of art. Learn more about this amazing building here.
