Ala Moana Beach Park is one of the largest parks in Honolulu and it's getting a huge makeover. Wider sidewalks, sand replenishment, and upgraded pavilions are just some of the upgrades we can expect over the next couple of the years. Earlier this year the City installed sand volleyball courts and it has since been a hit with locals as I can't remember the last time I've driven through the park and seen the courts empty.
Along with all of these amazing upgrades will be a brand new "world class" kid's playground. The Playground will include mini zip lines, slides, and so much more. The idea came from a local group of mothers and a non-profit that will raise money to help bring the project to fruition.
The playground around the corner at Kolowalu Park is literally filled with kids at all hours during the day. There is no dedicated parking for the park which leads me to believe many of the families spend time there live in Kakaako within walking distance.
Small things like a playground help build community and demonstrates to those not familiar with Kakaako that this is a neighborhood for locals and families. The group of mothers are seeking $2 million to build the project.
