North Shore, Hawaii, resides in the northern part of O’ahu and is the surfing capital of the world. Its largest settlement is Haleiwa with a population of about 4,000. Surfing activity in North Shore increases during the winter months, with good reason. Homeowners and visitors alike practically worship surfing, and it is arguably one of the best places on the planet at which to enjoy the sport. If you love the water and waves, you can be a part of this surfing community as well by buying a home here.
North Shore holds major surfing competitions every year in December that attracts both homeowners and tourists. The competitions that compete for the Triple Crown of Surfing include the Billabong Pipeline Masters, the Reef Hawaiian Pro, the O’Neill World Cup of Surfing, the Billabong Pro and the Roxy Pro Sunset. If you want to learn how to surf, North Shore offers a few surf schools to help you. Other than surfing, there’s nothing much else to do in this community, so you’ll have to travel to its nearby community Haleiwa. You can visit the yearly Haleiwa Arts Festival that takes place in July. This weekend event showcases different types of artwork like glass, photography, sculptures, ceramics and more. It’s also a free event. Refresh your mouth with a cool treat at Matsumoto’s Shave Ice. The shaved ice facility also serves ice cream. Haleiwa Beach Park is a great place to hang out with friends and get some exercise. You can go there to canoe, kayak, swim, picnic and more. It also has sports fields to play games like volleyball, baseball, and basketball.
The real estate properties in North Shore are occupied by a combination of owners and renters. Owned properties include townhouses and single family homes. Rented properties include vacation homes. Some homeowners near North Shore find it disappointing that there are no malls and that there’s no culture outside of surfing. On an upside, though, they like the fact that the home market values and the weather are excellent. If you’re a surfing fan, then this community is a good one to live in for several years or only during certain seasons. After all, you can always go to Haleiwa or other nearby cities if you need to run errands.
